That is what many old west cowboy enthusiasts experience by being part of organizations such as the SASS (Single Action Shooting Society).  SASS members take pride in preserving the history of the old west by being part of action shooting events.  The members will not just have fun with the family, but they will also learn the traditions and history of the Old west.
The requirement of being an SASS member is to adopt a shooting alias appropriate to your specific character or profession of the 19th century.  They then developed their costume accordingly. One of the most important pieces of the costume is a Cowboy Hat. Trying to find a good quality authentic old west hat that resembles the old west era is always a challenge.

Wyatt Earp Cowboy Hats by Miller Hats

One of the most famous figures of the American West 19th century era is the famous Wyatt Earp.  Known primarily for his notorious gunfight at the O.K Corral in Tombstone, Arizona in 1881.  Over the years, he made a living by gambling, saloon-keeping, mining and real estate speculation.  He also worked with a personal secretary to write his memoirs.  He died in 1929, but in 1931 the first major Earp biography “Wyatt Earp, Frontier Marshal” by Stuart N. Lake published and became a bestseller. They established Wyatt Earp as a folk hero here among millions of Americans searching for inspiration and excitement during the hard times of the Great Depression. 
Many years later, they created a film called Tombstone based on the events in Tombstone, Arizona, including the gunfight at the O.K. Corral and the Earp Vendetta Ride, during the 1880s.  It depicts several western outlaws and lawmen, such as Wyatt Earp, Virgil Earp, Morgan Earp, Johnny Ringo, Doc Holliday and others.
In this film, Kurt Russell portrays Wyatt Earp. His outstanding wardrobe in the film was very accurate by many historians.  The black coat, the black vest, black pants and many other details are extremely accurate.  But one of the most important pieces of the wardrobe is the famous Cowboy Hat.

Blues Brothers Hat for men

The Blues Brothers are a blues and soul band that became popular in 1978.  The band was made by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, they later became famous for their Hollywood film “The Blues Brothers”.  The idea of wearing a suit in the film was primarily inspired by Jazz performers from the ‘40s, 50’s, 60s who almost always wore a formal suit.  On the other hand, the idea of wearing a fedora hat was inspired by John Lee Hooker, a famous blues singer who wore fashionable hats.  For The Blues Brothers film, Dan and John wore black suits, with white shirts, skinny ties, black glasses and the famous stingy brim black fedora hat.
